Skip Counting Ideas for Halloween!
Updated: Oct 5
It's almost October!
It's late September and things are getting busy .. are you thinking holiday thoughts yet? I love the lead up to Halloween and this time of the year because you can get really crafty in the classroom with lots of great motifs and images - especially Halloween math activities for 1st grade and 2nd grade.

With this in mind, and as I'm a big fan of skip counting throughout the year, I thought I'd do a quick round up of some fun and engaging Halloween skip counting resources for 1st grade and 2nd grade - especially ones you can use for early finishers and Halloween skip counting math center ideas.
Halloween Skip Counting Dot to Dots
Look, I'll admit it, I'm a BIG FAN of skip counting dot to dots. Why? Because kids LOVE them. They're drawing, they're joining dots, they're practicing math and then they're coloring in. I find first grade and second grade kids LOVE math coloring pages and these Halloween skip counting dot to dots are perfect to use during October.
These ones here are a best seller in my TPT store, or scroll to the end of this post for a FREE counting to 99 Halloween themed puzzle!
FREE Halloween Skip Counting Worksheets
If you're looking for something simpler (and free!) you can create your own Halloween skip counting worksheets easily these days using AI prompts.
Here's a quick example I pulled together using ChatGPT and the following prompt:
AI PROMPT: Design a skip counting worksheet for my students counting by 2s, 5s and 10s where they have to finish the skip counting sequence on each line. Forwards counting only. Include some fun Halloween images to color in!
THEN: Can you make another that skip counts backwards?
RESULT:

But take care! ChatGPT struggled with the skip counting backwards one (original version not shown here). I asked it to fix the lines that it got wrong and it still couldn't do it. So I ended up using a graphic editor and fixing it manually - gah! So always remember to check thoroughly!
Halloween Skip Counting Mazes
Skip counting mazes are another of my favorite skip counting resources - especially for centers as they are GREAT to write and wipe. The set below also give you a few differet options and challenges students with both regular skip counting and skip counting off the decade (number patterns). This means they still count by 2s, 5s or 10s, but don't start at zero. They might skip count by 5s starting at 3... for example 3, 8, 13, 18 and so on.
Patterning is considered fundamental to mathematical thinking and is a great way to practice number sense, familiarise students with the base ten concept and so on.
AND you can grab a FREE SAMPLE from my TPT store which includes counting by 1s to 50 and skip counting by 5s in fun Halloween shapes! Click on the image to check it out!
Halloween Activity Mats or Puzzle Pages
When it comes to skip counting, I do find some students are already pretty proficient in early second grade so I always like to have a few extra resources up my sleeve for early finishers.
This is where these Halloween skip counting puzzles pages (or Halloween skip counting activity packet) can come in handy. The resource also includes Halloween place value activities and number sense, which is often the unit completed just prior to counting and skip counting. Click on the resource image if you want to take a closer look.
The resource set is also ideal for a Halloween skip counting center!
FREE Halloween Dot to Dot Page!
So if that's not enough inspo and FREE ideas for you, here's one more - a resource that's not currently available in my TPT store. It's a Pokemon inspired dot to dot page, counting by 1s to 99. Students can complete and color in Gengar!
